Today we introduced a powerful new feature for our business pages: campaigns. For the last two months we have been experimenting with how businesses can accept influencer applications and how influencers approach the application process. With over 1000 influencers applying to nearly 25 brands so far it safe to say we’ve learned a lot. Here are some highlights:
- Brands need to be specific about campaign timeframes, payment, location, and overall expectations to attract top influencers to apply.
- Brands should be diligent about responding to campaign applications even if an influencer is not a great fit. In each interaction something can be learned on both sides.
- Using email as the only location that applications are shown is tedious once you start getting 50-100 applications.
- Many businesses want to run multiple campaigns at once due to geographical constraints or multiple offers as paid versus in-kind only.
- Being able to communicate with multiple influencers on a campaign at once is critical
- Applications are the first step in a workflow from discovery to posting and then to reporting (and payment)
With all of this in mind, we revamped our whole approach to recruiting influencers on influence.co. The good news is the direction our learning pointed us is squarely in line with our philosophy: brands and influencers deserve a place to show off their work (and who they have worked with) and find each other to collaborate with. For the subset of influencers and brands that want more advanced features to do this, we offer our PRO version. That’s our model. Nothing less, nothing more. We don’t run campaigns and we never take a cut of your budget.
Throughout the rest of June you’ll see us launch our new Business Pages (what we’ve been calling brand pages up to now). The first feature in this launch is offering the ability for anyone with a brand page to create a specific campaign for influencers to apply to. Think of this like a hiring page on your website or a company page on LinkedIn. From here we’ll be launching features to help automatically organize applications to campaigns, communicate with influencers throughout a campaign, see which influencers have posted, calculate metrics and generate reports of the content created, and provide much finer controls about who can apply to campaigns in the first place.
We hope this gets you as excited about these changes as we are. I encourage you to check back frequently this month to see what’s changed. If you have a business who wants to run an influencer campaign, don’t hesitate to reach out to Jennifer on our team. She runs our business and agency programs and can help you get set up and going. All for free. Yup. Free. Jennifer can be reached at [email protected].
The influence.co Team
Today marks the 1 year anniversary of influence.co. We started out as nothing more than a simple newsletter about the industry. It’s been an incredible year since then and it seems only yesterday we sat down and asked ourselves what else was wrong or missing in the influencer space. We came up with a few core ideals and those became the foundation of what we set out to build:
- Influencers needed a public place to show off their digital media kits and to highlight all the collaborations they have worked on. Sites like LinkedIn just don’t work for the influencer space and agency-like companies hid influencers and their amazing work behind walled gardens. By being open, we’ve grown to 40K members and become one of the biggest platforms for influencers in a fraction of the time closed networks took to get there.
- Influencers will take initiative when given the tools to do so. Collaborations come from both direction – brands reaching out to influencers and influencers reaching out to brands. Since we launched brand pages only a few weeks ago, we’ve seen over 4000 applications to brand campaigns from influencers. Expect more of this soon!
- Influencers should be able to take their influence anywhere, especially off our platform. With embeddable influencer cards, public profiles, and our ENGAGE chrome extension everyone can see your influence where it’s most relevant to them.
- If you build free and useful tools, users will spread the word for you. We did and they did. Almost all of our growth to date has been organic and it’s only increasing in speed. Thank you to everyone who mentioned us to a friend, put us on their Instagram bio, or tweeted an article about us – it’s been simply amazing.
Those basic ideals have fueled the incredible growth we saw this year and I expect we’ll go back to them over and over as we navigate our second year.
To kick off our second year off we are launching our first paid product: influence.co PRO. Our PRO product is the culmination of a year’s worth of listening to our users, running many campaigns ourselves, and trying to understand how different users look at the profession of influencing. We have learned from up-and-comers who are looking for as much data and access as they can to help get a leg up on their first collaborations. We’ve talked to huge, experienced, brand name influencers who struggle to reduce the noise in the industry and keep on top of emerging trends. We’ve talked to representatives for brands and agencies who spend hours and days in spreadsheets just trying to pull together a group of influencers to run a campaign. We’ve talked to brands who find the reality of influencer marketing to be much more complicated than the bylines of the articles they read. All of these conversations we have taken something from and put it into the product. While there is much more to come in the influence.co PRO product, we think you’ll really love some of the features we’re starting with and we suspect you might even find them indispensable once you use them.
While today it’s likely we may take a short break to celebrate our success and dwell on what we’ve accomplished, I can promise once we’ve blown out our candles we’ll be right back to work trying to bring the best free and premium tools we can to the industry.
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to email me directly at [email protected].
Sincerely and thanks again!

One of the most frequent questions we get at influence.co is how our community members can help promote themselves to get more exposure for brand and influencer collaborations. Today we’re launching a set of features to help you do just that! Whether you have a blog and want to link back to your profile, you’re working with a journalist and they want to show off your stats in their article, or you’re working with an agency who wants to represent you appropriately on their site, we have a feature for you.
We now provide branded influence.co badges that allow you to link back to your profile and easily share your influencer resume. Wherever you already link to Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Bloglovin’ or other services, you can now link similarly to influence.co. We are rolling out various versions in the next week including automatically adding reach statistics as you can see in the example below. Once you install it on your blog, any changes you make will go live on your blog right away. Badges look like this:
Want to take your influence.co profile with you or give it to someone else to publish in an article, blog or on a website? Now you can with embed cards. Embed cards lets you configure a quick overview of your influence.co profile and grab a snippet of HTML that can easily be placed on any website. The results are dynamic and always update. Here is an example of a live card:
You can find all of these features from your profile page just by clicking the “Promote” menu item in the top right menu where your picture is. As always, we’re looking forward to your feedback on these new features and how we can improve them. You can always send us feedback at [email protected].
For now, happy promoting!

Today we’re pleased to officially announce the ability to find influencers by both location and category. Since we launched the general search feature, over half of our searches have contained a category location. This was a short term solution until we could put a more robust location feature in place. Despite its limitations, it has been an amazing indicator of how valuable it can be to narrow searches to a location.
After talking to a number of users, we decided to introduce a more robust location-focused search feature that allows for users to search by city, state or country. We thought varying levels of granularity matched various use cases we heard. A photographer heading to Orlando, Florida might only want to find influencers to shoot within that city. A brand entering a new country might want a broader set of folks to collaborate within that country. Our new location search lets you do this.
TRY IT HERE NOW
If you have a profile on influence.co make sure you’ve set your location up. Once you have, you’ll appear in location searches matching your city, state (US only), and country. If you don’t want to share your location you can simply leave the field blank. You’ll still appear in all category searches that don’t include a location. Try it out, we support multiple locations in search as well (e.g. New York or Los Angeles).
Today we are excited to launch the influence.co blog. There are so many things going on at influence.co right now, we wanted a single place for you to check in and see what’s going on. In the coming days and months look out for a slew of product announcements, invitations to events we’re throwing, and a heap of pictures as we get to know more and more influencers as friends around the world.
